What is the Thailand Single-Entry Tourist Visa?

The Thailand Single-Entry Tourist Visa allows you one entry into Thailand for tourism, leisure, or medical purposes. Travelers can stay up to 60 days in Thailand, with a one-time extension of 30 days available at any Thai immigration office afterward. 

You must apply for this visa outside of Thailand before leaving, and activities unrelated to tourism such as paid work are forbidden. As a “single entry” visa, this kind of tourist visa is canceled as soon as you leave Thailand, regardless of how much time is left on your stay.

How To Apply For A Thailand Single-Entry Tourist Visa

Many nationalities can apply for a Single-Entry Tourist Visa online through the Thailand E-Visa system. However, if you are not eligible for this, you can still apply at the nearest Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate. Whether you apply in person or online, you will still need to provide the following:

• A completed visa application form
• A passport or travel document with no less than 6 months validity remaining with at least 2 blank pages
• A passport photograph
• Onward or return travel tickets (paid in full)
• Proof of financial assets such as a bank statement (10,000 THB per person or 20,000 THB per family)
• Proof of hotel or private accommodation booking

It is recommended that you print copies of these documents. Entry approval is at the discretion of immigration officers and presenting hard copies of these documents will expedite your processing through Passport Control and help ease congestion at the airport.

Also, when you arrive in Thailand, a permit to stay stamp will be placed on your passport for 60 days, so you can arrive on the last day of the validity’s time frame and still receive the full 60-day permit to stay.

What is the Thailand Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa?The Thailand Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa allows tourists to enter Thailand multiple times within a 6-month period for purposes such as leisure, tourism, and medical visits. Each entry into Thailand permits a stay of up to 60 days, with the opportunity to apply for an extension for an additional 30 days at the immigration office.Unlike the Thailand Single-Entry Tourist Visa, which requires you to apply for a re-entry permit each time you leave and return to Thailand during the visa’s validity, the Thailand Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa opens the door for you to explore Thailand’s neighboring countries and return to the Land of Smiles as often as you please. Do You Need a Tourist Visa to Enter Thailand?Yes, you are required to obtain one to enter Thailand. However, if you are eligible, you may find it easier to enter Thailand through the Visa Exemption Scheme, which allows you to stay in Thailand for 60 days without needing to apply for a visa beforehand, with the option to extend for an additional 30 days. Alternatively, if your nationality is not eligible for visa exemption but your planned stay in Thailand is shorter, you may find entering Thailand with the Visa on Arrival (VOA) perfect for your situation.
